Celebrating 10 Fantastic Years 2014 - 2024
The electricity we use on site is generated from our solar panels reducing our requirement for burning fossil fuels. Additional solar panels together with a solar battery were installed in March 2024. This year we have generated over 5900kWh from our solar installations which is 107% of the site electrical usage, essentially making us carbon neutral from an electrical perspective. In 2024 our solar panels have saved 6 tonnes of CO2 emissions or the equivalent of 2.34 tonnes of coal!!
We now have an electric car charging point provided by Zappi available for guest use. Please bring your own cable. Recharging costs are payable on a pay as you use basis calculated post charging. Charging costs will automatically be charged to the card you have registered with us. Due to the location of the charger please let us know in advance if you would like to use this facility.
All our firewood is approved under the Grown In Britain certification, which proves that all our firewood comes from responsibly managed UK woodlands.
We recently replanted approx. 75 metres of native hedgerow having obtained a grant from Old Chalk, New Downs. Native hedgerows are very good for wildlife particularly small nesting birds and small mammals that are already often seen on the site.
In addition to supporting our local litter pickers with equipment donations we now have litter picking kits available onsite for guests to get involved when walking in the surrounding areas.
Our local litter picking group do a wonderful job and volunteer regularly to help keep the surrounding area beautiful!
It's such a shame that it needs to be done but without these amazing humans dedicating their time we wouldn't have such a lovely area and this was our way of saying thank you for everything they do. If anyone local would like to volunteer, let us know and we'll put you in touch
Last year we swapped to reusable glass bottles reducing our use of single use plastics by 3000 plastic bottles per season. We have installed larger recycling bins onsite decreasing our waste sent to landfill by 75%. We have a reuse policy on site with many quirky items e.g. grass sofa and tables made from recycled pallets and cable reels.
All our toilets, bins, taps and fridges have been twinned as a way of supporting those a lot less fortunate than ourselves.
Kits Coty Glamping have done an excellent job at achieving the Silver award following on from their GreenCheck Assessment. They achieved particularly good results in Communication where they keep their customers up to date on green issues, take feedback from customers on how they can be greener and show their commitment to green issues with their Silver Award in the Tourism Southeast Beautiful South Awards 2022/2023 for Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism. Kits Coty Glamping is also strong when it comes to Equality Diversity & Inclusivity, having a detailed accessibility guide that is readily available to guests. They also have a strong ethos to treat all staff and customers equally. Furthermore, they supply/ promote a great range of local Food and Drink and take pride in catering for guest’s special dietary needs. Key areas of focus should be Carbon and Chemicals. For Carbon, whilst they do have solar panel that help reduce their carbon emission, they do not currently monitor carbon and have no targets for its reduction. Also, a climate change risk assessment would be beneficial. Chemicals would benefit from a switch to ecofriendly options for laundry and hand soaps and toiletries as they have already done with their cleaning supplies. Overall, Kits Coty Glamping have shown a great commitment to green issues and are obviously eager to do as much as possible to be sustainable and reduce their impacts on the environment.
